Tow Vehicle Tire Prices

Post by campswithcritters »

Ouch to the wallet when you have a 10 wheeled tow vehicle that needs tires! So next time you are at the tire store think of me when that bill comes for TV tires. I put 10 brand new versatile tread tires on today and paid $4,890, makes your duallies & SRW pick-ups stand out in cheap maintenance doesn't it?

At least with 20/32 inch tread on the new ones I will definitely date them out before I wear them out! New steers in 6 to 7 years and drives will depend on weather cracking.

Which brand? One thing I've thought about is going to larger rims and heavier tires on Bubba sometime in the future. So I'm trying to get the big expenses paid for prior to retiring.

Got to be able to afford the diesel so we can do some serious traveling!!

So I assume the tires you got with the truck were pretty tired, so to speak.

Sumitomo 709s, a regional high speed steer/versatile (any position) tire. The dealer highly recommended them for reasonable price and he does not see them come back for warranty issues.

The rears were all recaps and had a lot of weather/age cracking at cap attachment area. Had a bit of strange wear on the RH steer tire, alignment check showed no problems so likely just an out of balance condition ignored by the fleet owners. They all had plenty tread but I hate waiting for a tire truck on the side of the road, no way to change one myself as they are over 300 lbs each when mounted.

I feel your pain. I just put 6 new 19.5 Hankooks on my truck. Retail was 315 each. I paid 246 each thru my business. Then put 4 new ones on the back of my flatbed @ 760 for 4. And I mount and bal my own so, that would have been more.

The price of tires is what caused me to outgrow burnouts, especially with a dually and a locker! Granted the local parts store has a sweet set of double 11's fron the day before I changed the rears last time 8) 8)

They pressured me into it, the counter guys are Chevy and Dodge guys who taunted me with " that weasy wimpy Ford couldnt spin the tires in the rain" ...kids can be so mean
