Trail air vs 5th airborne
I have a friend that pulls a 35' Keystone Cougar. He has been on Keystone's forum trying to figure out which pin box to go with, Trail air or 5th Airborne. He wanted me to see what my Cardinal friends say about them. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanx

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
I believe that most of the people have trail air because they are part of the Forest River brand of companies. However I do know that Bob Fassbender had the fifth airborne on his 2004 29 WB and was very happy with it.

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
I'd go with the 5th Airborne after looking at both. All the rubber is protected from UV. Reports I've read are pretty much the same for each, so I'd guess performance is equal.

Everything I have read and talked to owners of both , they are pretty much the same as to how they work . Either one will do the job. No one has been dissatisfied with either brand.

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
I have always thought that angle of the pin meeting the 5th wheel plate is much better with the 5th Airborne pin box. With the Trial Air it just looks screwy to have the pin hanging at the reverse angle to how the hitch is setting waiting for the pin to slide it. The Trail Air appears that you would have to have the trailer lower and compress the air bag as they slide together. That is going to put more strain on the landing gear legs and/or wheel chocks. 5th Airborne's hing point is at the front so the two parts are setting at similar angles. 5th Airborne looks cleaner and as Jeff says, the air bag is not setting out in the elements.
Other opinions may very!

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
The pin of the trail air slides right in without compressing the air bag so there is no added strain on the landing gear. Have used the trail air for many years with no problems. Both are great products

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
Thanks to everyone, I'll pass info on to my friend. My plan is to go with Mor ryde and trimbrens.
Thanks again,

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
I had Timbrens on a 2004 Dodge. They worked great while hooked up to the camper but I always thought they caused the truck to ride very stiff when not hooked up. If memory serves me correctly when not hooked up they ride 1 1/2 inches above the axle and when you hit a bump that makes the axle bounce up it is a quick stop when it hits the Timbren.WILDAA wrote:My plan is to go with Mor ryde and trimbrens.

Re: Trail air vs 5th airborne
When I had the F250 I thought about airbags or Timberlins. Then I went, Dummy! If you're truck can't handle it stock, long haul, you'll regret it. 'Sides it had a V10, and I'm in the west with 8000' passes, and long hauls at 3000' +, in headwinds. Got a turbo diesel dually.
Problem's solved.
