Chris, My transmission buddy is in the mountains for the opening week of deer hunting. I can contact him next week if you have not found out anything by then. Let me see, transmission and tires have to be at the least $6000, makes the new truck look better

Any verdict on you tranny Chris? It cost me over $4500 to re do the one that died on me last year. I miss my MegaCab, but love the power of my new powerstroke.

We just got a company owned Ford Sport-Trac back from AMCO. It did not have reverse gear, the cost was a little $4000

Re: Sad Day! Tranny Problems
The tranny in the Sport-Trac is not noted to be an very good unit. BIL had the same issue with reverse, which is very common. His tranny guy will not even try to rebuild those. He installs a Ford factory replacement one!WVcampers wrote:We just got a company owned Ford Sport-Trac back from AMCO. It did not have reverse gear, the cost was a little $4000

Re: Sad Day! Tranny Problems
$ 4,000 sounds like time to just put the cover back on the tranny and head down to the dealer and use that $4,000 as credit towards a new truck.
Its only money and you cannot take it with to the grave.

And
That is still in the works! Would love to find a low mile 2006-2007 3500 SRW LWB Dodge 5.9 Cummins with 6 speed manual 4x4(not black) or a 2006-2007 GM D/A Chassic SRW 3500 LWB 4x4(not black).
Warm the old Dodge up so it shift correctly and send it down the road. Isn't that why 50 percent of vehicles are traded in?

Re: Sad Day! Tranny Problems
I'm not sure you'll find a Dodge of that year range with a manual tranny. Although I was very happy with my 06 5.9 Cummins, I'd be looking for one with the 6.7 and the 6 speed auto, the factory exhaust brake alone makes it more attractive and the the extra 2 gears are also a plus. If you do go with the Dodge I highly recommend you look at the MegaCab, interior room is awesome.

Last first! I want a long box! So no MegaCab! Besides they have lower tow ratings!
Second! I do not want a 6.7 without DEF! Mileage sucks! My tranny guy in Canada is not sold on the Dodge 6 speed auto 68RFE! So if I go new it will be with the Aisin tranny.
I do not want another 47-48RE four speed auto, and have to do another major upgrade to bullet proof it.
And yes I will not tow without an exhaust brake! There are 3rd gen Dodge Rams with manuals in this area! Maybe 10-15% of them. Even 6.7 with manuals!

Re: Sad Day! Tranny Problems
I think they just started putting the manual back in. Understand the long box issue, that's on reason I have a Ford this time. If I'm not mistaken all the 6 speed autos in the Dodge are Aisin trannys. Remember that the 06-09 crewcab look Dodges are really the extended cab, to get true crewcab room you have to get a 2011 or up unit. When I was looking I found the 2012 had a few changes from the 2011 that I liked better. Down here they are ordering a lot of them in with the spray in bed liner, sure make the interior of the bed stay better looking and much more non slip.
If you were to buy a truck in the US would you have to pay any penalties of special taxes? If not you might consider looking for a used unit in Az, Texas, or New Mexico as a lot of guys down here trade every year and turn in some real nice low mileage trucks.
The new rigs with the factory hitch prep can save you some bucks also.
What ever you decide to do, best wishes.
