Microwave
Well, our 17 month old nuke machine died a quick death. Didn't notice until we went to use it of course. It seems the best fix is to throw and replace but we are wondering if anyone has put in the microwave convection type and what brand did you put in?

I think ours is on the way out also. Nuke baked potatoes and half. way through it goes to half power. Might have something to do with the steam.

Heat related Mike, if cook top is on it will reduce to save itself, also it will turn on the vent fan sometimes if things get too hot under it. Well, research shows that replacemnent nukers for the over the range style are very limited...in fact only the LG is available. Magic Chef seems to have disappeared, and most are too big., Convection ovens are too big and require too much clearance for using.
Update: To my surprise, , Forest River parts division has replacement microwaves for a decent price. Yeah! Never woulda thunk it.

Does not seem to take the steam well and shuts it down to half power. Everything else seems ok.

Replacing the microwave brought up the subject of "why don't we vent to the outside?" from the cook. With the unit down it seems quite plausible to put a vent thru the back because the nuker has a reversible gate for recirculation or outside vent. I hesitate to buy an outside vent grille for RV's because they are made out of polypropylene and yellowing seems to be a common complaints as well as the flapper breaking off. I bought a metal grill with a metal flapper and intend to hold it closed somehow. Wish me luck as it will happen tomorrow.
BTW, discussion on the Cedar Creek forum has centered on the fact that FR is supposed to vent to the outside however in the name of cost-cutting set them up as recirculating even though propane combustibles are to be evacuated and not recirculated. Some have had the vent corrected under warranty.

Started the rear venting for the nuker. Sandwiched in between customers, I managed to cut the hole for the outside vent. Surprise, surprise. the rear wall is all foam with about 1/16" fiber board of some sort laminated on the outside. THe inner wall and outer wall are the same thickness and the rest is foam. Now I know why the screws holding the microwave backplate to the wall were all loose. I have yet to figure out how to secure that plate well.
Tomorrow's job.

Hello Al,
Look for some large rivets that collapse behind the wall, not the kind that just expand. They are used by RV companys for mounting to the thin walls.
Also A&E uses them to mount awnning arms the thin walls that screws will pull out of.

THere are two groups, one is installation of the hooded duct in the rear.
The second group shows what I did to remount the backplate for the microwave.
