Re: Trailer sway
Seems like a lot of air for the G614 which is 110 psi cold (65) degrees.

Re: Trailer sway
I also have Load Range H - G114's 215/75R17.5 rated to 4805 at 125 lbs inflation. I run them at 118 - 120 lbs and haven't had a problem at all. According to my TPSM with the ambient temperature about 85* the pressure increases to about 135 lbs and temperature goes up to about 95*. The temperature seems to be a little higher or lower based on the road surface. Asphalt seems to run a little cooler than concrete. Hard to really nail that down but that is my perception.

Re: Trailer sway
Sorry for the typo, I do have Goodyear G114's inflated to about 117 psi cold. In South Texas cold is hot!!!

Re: Trailer sway
Have you gotten your truck tires replaced yet? Since Ford dealers have been pushing tires lately I would think they should take care of the tire problem. Of course Discount tire sure has been helpful to me.

That's odd. Any pictures?shimano1 wrote: Just noticed yesterday that both Michelins on the right side of the truck are missing big chunks of rubber from the same rib on the tires. So a trip to discount tire tomorrow to see what they will do about it, seeing that the truck only has 12,000 miles on it.$$$$$$$$

Re: Trailer sway
Is it trailer sway or TV. If it is trailer then front tire pressure will have little if any effect. If it your truck wandering so you have to make constant corrections then front tire pressure could be the problem. If actual trailer sway I would be looking at the trailer suspension.

Re: Trailer sway
I feel it's too much front tire pressure on his truck as stated in post #6 and #8 on this thread. But with that being said and in my case with our new trailer when I had my 2011 3500 HD SRW it was not sway it was a rolling feeling on the pin box due to way too much pin weight. I drove truck for many years and like was stated earlier it was not a good feeling at all.

Re: Trailer sway
Thanks for all the good feed back, I will try making some changes to tire pressures on my August trip to the Texas hill country and see what happens. I did take my truck by discount tire in Corpus Christi TX to have them look at the Michelin's on my truck, and after some dickering and them calling the manufacturer about the tires, all they would do for me was give me 45% off towards new tires, so not wanting to buy a whole new set of high dollar tires I replaced the 2 tires that had issues. The other 2 only have 12,000 miles on them, so hopefully they don't start falling apart.

Re: Trailer sway
Update, just came back from the Texas hill country and after adjusting tire pressures, adding water to the fresh water tank, slowing down the trailer is still going all over the road, the refrigerator also pooped out this trip so while it's in the shop for those repairs I will have them check the suspension/alignment and try to eliminate some possibilities.

Re: Trailer sway
If you are still swaying you have a major problem with the suspension either in the trailer or truck.

Re: Trailer sway
Try to test pull another 5th wheel from your dealer, this would tell you if the problem is the truck or trailer.

Re: Trailer sway
could it be possible that I have 2 much air in the air bags, after looking at the trailer after the last trip it did appear that the trailer my have been slightly nose up and the rear of the truck was a little above level, I have been doing some more research and it sounds like you actually want the majority of the weight on the truck and if I am slightly nose high on the trailer this could transfer more of the weight to the back of the trailer adding to the swaying issues, just a thought.

Re: Trailer sway
My trailer is a little nose high, but the truck is very level when hooked up. The rig is very stabile. I don't have the length or weight that you do. I have noticed that most trucks towing a fiver are setting low in the rear. I would hitch the trailer with no air in the bags. Then put enough air in to stabilize and not raise the truck. These trucks are built to haul a load in the bed and still drive well, they are very nose heavy when not loaded.
