Pulled into the local Wilco Hess station to top off w/diesel this past Saturday. Put $39.00 into the TV and went into the store to pay with my Hess credit card through Chase Bank. Get 5% off all gas/diesel purchases at Hess that way. Price that day was $3.10, so I would have actually been billed at the end of the month for $2.95 a gallon, but the DA#$%^&D computers were down and had to pay full price. Would be nice if they would automate their diesel pumps.

Yep, one day you'll be telling your grand-kids about the good old days when diesel/gas was under $3.00 a gallon. They'll look at their folks, your kids, and ask if grandpa is telling the truth.Mike Clay wrote:Never thought I would hear those words at 2.97 per gallon.Rob & Cathy wrote:Whoa, that's an excellent price. I was talking to a young lady just last month. Told her I worked in a gas station when I was in High School and gas prices was $0.32 a gallon. She looked at me like I just grew horns and a tail. That was only back in 1974!!!

Back in the mid 60s when I first started driving gas was around 25 cents a gallon. Back then there use to be gas wars between the local stations and I can remember once filling my VW bug with gas at 19 cents a gallon.
Wayne, wasn't it around '74 or '75 that the gas doubled almost overnight to 60 cents a gallon? Can you imagine if the same thing happened today.

Yep I remember .25 per gallon until the 70's with the gas shortage and the odd even system and sitting in lines for hours.

We are kind of dating ourselves but I remember those same prices and gas wars as well back in New Mexico? The other thing I remember in those times is that I was working for $1.50 to $2.92 an hour and Nixon also freezing wages!!
Wayne, You talked about the young lady giving you looks. We have to remember that at the very least 35% of the population in the U.S. today was not alive during the Viet Nam era or Richard Nixon.

Right after the so called gas shortage. And no I don't want to think about it doubling.Rob & Cathy wrote:
