We Love Michigan. Used to have a sportfishing yacht that I kept at St Joseph. The salmon fishing was great in Lake Michigan.

We're hoping to visit Michigan in the near future perhaps sometime in 2013.

Re: Way to go Michigan!
The really good thing about the State Parks in MI is that most of them are located on the prime ground for an area. Most are on an inland lake, next to a great river, historical sites, or hiking trails.
A few but not many have full hook ups. Most of the sites that are coded as modern only have 30 amp electricity on the site, but most of these camp grounds have dump stations and fresh water to fill up. The older parks are all back in sites with a few designated as handi-cap that are black topped.
If you are planning on visiting any in the lower between Memorial Day and Labor Day it's a good idea to get reservations especially on weekends. Reserve as early as you can for your stay up to 6 months ahead. My expierence is that once you get north and west of the Makinaw bridge campsites can be found a couple of weeks before you want to visit. Except maybe the 4th of July week. Reservations can be made at www.midnrreservations.com.

Michigan State Parks are great places. We've camped in most of them. Usually in a tent, pop-up or 21' tt. Today with this 5th wheel, we just don't fit.
The roads aren't cut wide enough or tall enough. Most are back-ins too. Really need to check the site Bill listed as it gives you for lot sizes.

Thanks for the link Bill.
We may have to time our trip to Michigan with the Midwest rally John.

If you're planning route 2 on the way to Memphis, don't be surprized to see snow in the UP.Rob & Cathy wrote:Thanks for the link Bill.![]()

Looking at the DNR site it looks like most Campgrounds in the U.P. don't turn on the water or open thier campground restrooms until the middle of May and I see northern lower turn on the water anywhere from mid April to early May.Rob & Cathy wrote:We may have to time our trip to Michigan with the Midwest rally John.
Johns right alot of them are to small for a 35 foot 5th wheel especially when the campground is crowded. Also even the remodeled ones with pull-thrus and full hook-ups must have been designed by a non camping engineer because the location of the sewer connection on the campsite might require 30 to 40 feet of sewer hose to make the connection.Travelers wrote:Today with this 5th wheel, we just don't fit. The nice thing about the campground maps on the DNR site is they allow you to find a campsite that's on an outside corner that would allow you to get a striaght shot backing into it. If you decide to stay at some of the State Parks in MI let us know which and between us Michiganders we can probably let you know what to expect and some of the area attractions and must see things that are in the area.
A couple of my favorites are Tahquamenon Falls, Porcupine Mountians, Hartwick Pines, and the Keeweenaw area.

RobTaking route 31 from the Big Mac south will put you thru some beautiful parts of MI.
I'm already looking at route options from here to Memphis next April depending on what the roads are like in Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado.
